The Des Moines-area Brazilian community went unrepresented at the Iowa Latino Heritage Festival for years, but this time things were different. A group of volunteers got together to showcase Brazilian culture at the 2013 edition of the festival, which included Capoeira presentations and the debut of Brazilian Moves, a dance troupe specializing in folkloric dances such as baião, frevo, and maracatu —and samba, of course. The fact that the first day of the festival was Sept. 7 (Brazilian Independence Day) made it even sweeter!

As founder and content director for this site, I keep an eye on what's wrong with Brazil, but what really makes my heart beat faster is sharing the exciting things happening in Brazilian tech, music, film, and other creative industries.
